Halloween Waldo

This Halloween a bunch of us decided to go for a group theme: Where's Waldo?

The costume was simple enough, glasses, stripped hat and stripped shirt. That meant that we were able to get many people involved. In my opinion I got the best costume, the most evil and despicable Odlaw (aka evil Waldo). With my black/yellow outfit and sinister moustache I truly showed how evil a Waldo themed costume could be.

Can you spot the real Waldo?

Jim impresses everyone with his awesome guitar skills

Mike after we accousted him and dressed him as Waldo
(that's what he gets for wearing a red shirt)

I’m currently in middle of midterm season which means I’m super busy. However I still had a chance to spend some serious time with Ultimate Alliance. With Brad, Mike and occasionally Dave, we truly are the kings of Marvel themed basher video games.

So in summery of this blog: Waldo group costumes rock (nice idea Jacqui), midterm season sucks, and Ultimate Alliance is everything I dreamed it could be.

Train Crawl

On Saturday Oct. 22 a group set out on a journey which had been done before. That journey was a completely successful train crawl.

Basically a train crawl means riding the Calgary C-Train and hitting a pub at every stop. However, a complete train crawl is unfortunately impossible. There are 22 stops on the main line. Assuming one got off and just waited for the next train (a 15 minute wait), the whole thing would take 5.5 hours. Now that’s assuming that one does not consider the time that a hitting a pub takes.

To make the Train Crawl a more realistic goal, we decided to instead have a picture at every stop and hit pubs in key locations. This meant much running on and off C-trains. For this noble task a group set out consisting of me, Dave, Scott, Jacqui, Adrienn, Evan, Cody, Richard and Travis. Eventually we were joined by Nate as well.

Let us now view the break down of the journey.

The Journey begins at Sommerset

2006 Calgary Zombie Walk

There was one event that promoted me to start up the blog again, it was an activity so ridiculous and awesome that it would be a crime against humanity if it was not recorded on the internet. That event would be the 2006 Calgary Zombie Walk!

To summarize a Zombie Walk, basically a bunch of people dress up like zombies, go downtown and then shamble around for a couple of hours. Zombie Walks are a true testament to the power of the internet since they are generally not advertised in any other fashion.

The most common question that I got asked is "Why dress up like a zombie and shamble around downtown?"” The answer is simple, because it is fun to dress up like a zombie and wander around downtown.

The 2006 Calgary Walk took place on Saturday Oct. 14, 2006 starting at 3pm.

My group started up about 2 hours before the event started and scrambled together some costumes. For blood we used corn syrup and food coloring. The ghastly faces were a mix of back and white face paint. It was also discovered that oat meal gave the appearance of disgusting rot, which was perfect. My partners in crime for this were Carlin, Troy, Dan, Keith, Daniel and Nikki.

Mmmm.... fake blood

Carlin the Zombie Lumberjack

Dan goes for the classic Zombie Soldier

I went for the Zombie Scientist look (finally got some use out of my old lab coat)

Troy looking stylish as a corpse

Nikki looking good as a Zombie Cheerleader

The crew is ready for some shambling

Once our costumewerere complete it was time to head to the meeting spot at Olympic Plaza. We were concerned that there wouldn'e be many people there, however we werpleasantlyly surprised by the horde of zombies which greeted us.

Zomble Elvis!!! (What's the plural for Elvis)

These were some of my favorite costumes

Thiller makes the scene

Once enough zombies had assembled it was time for the march of the undead to begin. The first destination was along Stephen Ave.

The Zombies filled the street

The street windows were covered with fake blood

Favorite picture of the bunch. This was legimately scary

Once the zombies had overrun Stephen Ave. they headed towards 17 Ave.

One zombie didn't get far

Someone learns the error of saying "Come get me!"

Keith and Daniel shamble down 17. Ave.

After 17 Ave. the Zombie Walk ended at Olympic Plaza. In total the walk took about 2.5 hours and was a hell of a good time. To whoever was responsible for organizing this, you are a king amongst men.
